In MEMORIAM

Jack R. Blumenfeld

On Sunday, May 15, 2022, Jack Blumenfeld, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away at age 79 surrounded by his loved ones.

Jack was born on June 23, 1942 in Chicago to Sidney and Shirley Blumenfeld. After graduating from Miami High received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama in 1964 and his law degree from the University of Miami in 1967, and practiced criminal law for over 50 years in Miami. On June 7, 1964, he married Mimi Heffler. They raised two children, Staci and Barry.

Jack was diagnosed at age 6 with rheumatic fever and not expected to live through another Chicago winter. His family moved to Miami and he lived the next 73 years to the fullest. Jack was known for his intellect, sense of humor, deep friendships and even deeper love of his family.

He was known throughout the state of Florida as a top criminal defense attorney who believed that each of his clients had needs and deserved to be treated with respect. Jack reveled at any opportunity to mentor young lawyers within his 50+ years of practice, teaching the importance of work ethic and using a sense of humor in a lawyer’s skillset. He continued to share his love for law, even in retirement through coaching the mock trial team at Coral Reef High School.

Jack’s greatest passions were his family, learning and Miami Hurricanes football. He unconditionally loved his wife of 57 years, his two children and four grandchildren and was a Hurricanes football season-ticket holder for over 40 years. After his retirement in 2018, he spent his time taking classes at the University of Miami and Temple Judea learning about Judaism, Israel and European history.

Jack was preceded in death by his father, Sidney, and his mother, Shirley. He is survived by his wife Mimi, his daughter Staci and son in-law, Chris Wagner, his son Barry and daughter in-law April Cantor, his grandchildren, Justin Wagner, Lauren Wagner, Sidney Blumenfeld and Ezra Blumenfeld and his brother Mike.
